present temple was built in 1950 on the site of previous temples and
is known as one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Shiva. The temple is located
near the spectacular Somnath beach, caressed by the clear blue Arabian
Sea. Somnath is also near Sasan, the centre of the Gir wild life
sanctuary, the only home of the Asiatic Lion. Veraval is a fishing
port, where thousands of ships of all shapes and sizes can be seen
unloading their catch.
